Rainforest Discovery

This painting was inspired by the first European women to go on scientific expeditions in South America. In the 1600’s the beautiful and powerful work of Maria Sibylla Merian Naturalist Entomologyst and Botanical Illustrator must have enthralled viewers upon her return to Germany. I researched flora and fauna in the Amazon rain forest for Orchid Discovery and it was completed in early 2019. As I write this in September of 2019 the need to cherish and protect all the rain forests of the world is ever more apparent.
